MFA
Multi-Functional Anoscope
MFA is a diagnostic tool that is situated between simple rectal exploration and anorectal manometry. It consists of a graduated anoscope, a balloon catheter equipped with a two-way stopcock and a mandrel (introducer) with a hole about 1 cm in diameter at the apex to facilitate the insertion of the catheter into the rectum.
In addition to being a simple and functional instrument that allows to carry out a common anoscopy and the measurement of the anal canal, the device allows a series of tests aimed at the recognition of a rectal hypersensitivity or hyposensitivity, possible prolapse and a first identification of possible dyssynergia.
MFA allows to perform:
- Rectal sensitivity test (TSR)
- Balloon Expulsion Test (BET)
- Pelvic Organ Prolapse Quantification (POP-Q)
- Functional anal canal length measurement (FACLM).
The values obtained from the tests will contribute to the formulation of a clinical picture close to reality, will quickly and easily show an alteration of the rectal sensitivity and will direct the specialist to carry out further investigations in order to better select and study the patient’s clinical profile, especially if surgery is planned.
